Qatar Energy and ConocoPhillips sign an agreement to supply Germany with LNG |
- Qatar Energy has signed a 15-year bilateral agreement with ConocoPhillips to export liquefied gas to Germany beginning in 2026.
- Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for energy affairs, managing director and CEO of Qatar power company, said that the agreement will supply Germany with two million tons of liquefied gas annually, coming from Ras Laffan in Qatar to the liquefied gas plant in northern Germany.
- Al-Kaabi went on to say that Germany is Europe's largest gas market, emphasizing the country's commitment to ensuring its energy security.
- Al-Kaabi noted that the supply of liquefied natural gas will come from two projects to boost liquefied natural gas production in the North East Field and the North South Field, and that today's deal is the first long-term supply agreement for liquefied natural gas to Germany.
- "We are committed to strengthening energy security in (Germany) and Europe in general," he added. We have demonstrated this commitment by making significant investments in various stages of the gas sector, including projects to increase our LNG production capacity in Qatar and the development of the Golden Pass project for LNG exports in the United States.
- "We embarked on the largest LNG carrier-building program in energy history, and we contracted long-term commitments in infrastructure for receiving, storing, and distributing LNG in a number of European nations," Al-Kaabi said.
- He noted that "Qatar separates politics from trade," stressing that an agreement to sell liquefied natural gas to Germany was signed today with an American company.
